TURF MAINTENANCE

There is more to lawn maintenance than mowing the lawn. Weed control, top dressing, scarification, aeration, watering and irrigation all play a huge part in achieving the perfect lawn.

With over 28 years working on some of the finest golf courses in the world in both cold and tropical locations, I have the experience to turn patchy lawn to lush, healthy turf.

Weed Control

Weed species are opportunistic in terms of having growth characteristics that allow them to invade an area rapidly when given the smallest of opening. That’s why it is important to have a healthy growing lawn, which is the single key factor in weed prevention. Pre-emergent/ post emergent, selective and non-selective herbicides are available to help combat weed control when all else fails and here at Turfology, we are able to provide the best herbicide for every situation.

Top Dressing

Top dressing your turf is the most effective practice available for biological control (non machine) of thatch or organic matter.

Top dressing helps prevent your turf becoming spongy, which in-turn reduces the chances of your mower leaving unsightly scalped areas. It also helps in levelling any uneven or low areas and will help accelerate the recovery of any bare areas.

Scarification

Scarification is the removal of thatch or organic matter. What is thatch and organic matter? Thatch and organic matter is a build up of dead grass, clippings and compaction that prevent (over time) healthy grass from growing. This build up reduces nutrient uptake and repels water which in turn limits your turf to reach its optimum growing abilities. By scarifying your turf, you allow air movement, nutrients and water to enter the growing medium (rootzone), these are the key ingredients to a healthy, firm and awesome turf.

OUR MAINTENANCE PROCESS

Step 01:
Gather Data

Before a maintenance plan can be devised, firstly I need to meet you and see your lawn and garden. At this point we can discuss the issues and I can shed some light on solutions.

Step 02:
Provide a Quote

Once I have an understanding of the extent of your issues I devise a plan of attack and provide you a quote to implement this plan.

Step 03:
Start the Work

Congratulations you've made a great decision to engage our services, lets not gloss over the fact I love grass and the process of turning dodgy, weedy grass into lawn you'll be proud of.

Step 04:
Monitor the Progress

While I'm implementing the plan, I'll also be monitoring the progress your lawn is making and updating the plan based on the success and failures of certain processes.

Irrigation

Irrigation is the most vital part of growing turf. Without water, the turf has little chance of survival. It is important to note that over watering causes as much damage as under watering. As turf is a living organism, it can drown when too much irrigation is applied, so it is fundamentally important to find that “fine medium” that allows your turf to survive the hot, drought like conditions without causing weed and disease infestation when too much/too little water is applied.

Wetting Agents

The application of wetting agents will help direct water through dry compacted areas of growing medium giving an even coverage of moisture, hence allowing your turf to grow more consistently. Watering/Irrigation systems are not a “set and forget” tool, they need to be adjusted regularly to follow seasonal and climatic changes.

My Commitment

Turfology is committed to make a difference to you and especially lawn. Through experience, pride and an unwavering desire to make an impact, you the customer is our number one priority.
